Boao Lecheng’s Innovative Push In The ‘Beauty Economy’: Revolutionizing Med-Aesthetic Services And Tourism

2023-12-27

The article from People’s Daily, titled “Boao Lecheng Accelerates the Introduction of Medical Aesthetic Products to Develop the ‘Beauty Economy’,” published on November 15, 2021, reports significant developments in the Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone. As of the report date, the Lecheng Pilot Zone had successfully introduced over 730 cases of licensed medical aesthetic (med-aesthetic) products and promoted their inclusion in real-world research pilots. This initiative aims to attract more pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers to Lecheng, thereby boosting the med-aesthetic consumer market and developing the “beauty economy.”

Since July 2020, the Lecheng Pilot Zone has been actively bringing in licensed med-aesthetic products, integrating industries like tourism, health care, elderly care, and medical cosmetic surgery. This integration is turning the zone into a destination for med-aesthetic tourism, drawing in consumers for these services.

The Lecheng Pilot Zone Administration Bureau is working to improve the regulatory mechanism for med-aesthetic products, guiding medical institutions toward refined and standardized development. The zone is also attracting leading institutions in med-aesthetic subfields, aiming to expand the industry scale and form a high-end med-aesthetic industry cluster. This supports Hainan’s goal of becoming an international tourism consumption center. A key advantage for Lecheng is the policy that allows domestic tourists to use advanced foreign med-aesthetic products, enhancing the zone’s appeal as a med-aesthetic tourism destination.

In April of the same year, the state encouraged renowned beauty medical institutions to establish themselves in the Lecheng Pilot Zone. These institutions can use bulk med-aesthetic products listed in countries like the United States, European Union, and Japan. Lecheng is becoming a competitive hub for leading domestic med-aesthetic enterprises. For instance, in July, Boao Yiling signed a collaboration agreement with Huaxi Biological, a national leader in med-aesthetics, covering various areas such as products, equipment, technology, clinical data, and innovation.

Currently, the Lecheng Pilot Zone houses five med-aesthetic institutions, including one under construction that has received a 5A rating from the China Association of Plastics and Aesthetics. With the introduction of more than 730 med-aesthetic licensed products and the continuous inflow of the latest products, the zone is poised to offer a broader range of choices and higher-quality services to beauty enthusiasts in the future.
